ADVENTURES IN LARRYLAND by Larry Zbyszko (ECW Press)

It was a very successful attempt to make the fans hate him, when Larry Zbyszko dubbed himself “The Living Legend” early in his career, stealing the moniker from his famous mentor, Bruno Sammartino. Sammartino earned the nickname after becoming the most popular wrestler in the Northeast and helping Vince McMahon Sr. build the most successful territory in the world. Zbyszko may not have been worthy of the title at the time, but he has managed to grow into it nicely over time. Today, the handle “Living Legend” fits Zbyszko like an expensive custom-made shoe. Although nobody could match up to Sammartino’s legendary status, Zbyszko did his absolute best to continue the tradition and represent that much-needed reminder that the “old school” mentality is still alive and a worthy of today’s product.
“Adventures in Larryland,” is the fascinating story of Larry Zbyszko’s life as a professional wrestler. The journey begins with Zbyszko becoming the protégé of Bruno Sammartino, and eventually breaking out of Bruno’s enormous shadow and engaging in one of the WWWF’s most lucrative feuds of all-time. >From there, Zbyszko hit many other territories, most notably the NWA and AWA, before settling into an announcing position with World Championship Wrestling in the 90s.
I think everyone will enjoy this book, but I do have one itty bitty complaint; when I first heard that the “Living Legend” Larry Zbyszko was going to put out a book about his life as a professional wrestler, my initial thought was; “Wow! that is going to be an epic story - 400 pages AT LEAST!” When my copy of “Adventures in Larryland” arrived in my mailbox I was shocked to find that I had 191 pages of light reading on my hands. It’s a shame when the people who actually have the illustrious history to fill a HUGE book give the fans 50% of themselves in print. Meanwhile, bums like Chyna, Goldberg, and Batista, and people with far less experience put out boring 300-400 page books before their career is even finished. Thankfully, that would be my one and only complaint about this book. Larry Zbyszko’s book hits on most of the important topics, but barely skims, and sometimes ignores, some of the pressing issues as well. I’m begging you Larry (and ECW Press), give us Adventures in Larryland 2! Larry Zbyszko defends the AWA World Heavyweight Championship (a title he claims he never lost) August 2, 2008 at the Olmsted County Fairgrounds, Rochester, Minnesota.

STANDING THE TEST OF TIME
by Sean Bush “The Boss” of Pro Wrestling
While sitting in my chair, watching an episode of AWA Championship Wrestling, which I had previously taped from ESPN Classics, a strange and overwhelming feeling suddenly came over me. A little startled, I turned off the TV to concentrate on it but the feeling went away as quickly as it began. Shrugging it off, I went back to the show. A few minutes later it happened again. It was a familiar feeling and yet alien to me at the same time. It was like a long lost memory suddenly coming back. I was watching pro wrestling and actually enjoying it!
For so long I have been watching wrestling, looking for something – anything – to get excited about. But more often than not I would either find something to complain about or just get bored and change the channel. Now I had found it! Good old fashioned straight ahead professional wrestling. No time wasted on corny backstage skits. No hokey non wrestling “entertainment” segments. No half hour speeches by promoters. Just great competition between wrestlers who are focused on defeating their opponent in order to move up the ranks and get that shot at the coveted World Heavyweight Wrestling championship. This is what made me become a fan in the first place. It was such a refreshing change from the Hollywood scripted product that is put out by the WWE. Even though the matches were over 20 years old I enjoyed them as if they were brand new.
Having enjoyed it so much brought about a realization of exactly how bad the WWE product has become. I remember watching this same AWA show (though not necessarily this particular episode) when it was first broadcast back in the late 1980s. By then the AWA was not the dominant promotion it once was and was often looked upon as stale and out of date. And to a degree, when compared to other top promotions of the time it was. Despite still producing top quality matches with A level stars, the AWA was way behind when it came to the flash and color that was being showcased by other promotions such as the UWF, NWA, WCCW and of coarse the WWF. Colorful wrestlers with major personalities like Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Roddy Piper, and the Fabulous Freebirds were adding a whole new dimension to the sport. As charisma and showmanship was becoming more and more desirable to wrestling fans the AWA started to look boring by comparison and by the mid to late 80s was largely considered to be the weakest of the top promotions.
Fast forward to 2008.
WWE has completely taken over the mainstream of pro wrestling. Many fans have no choice but to watch WWE to get their wrestling fix. But, most that do leave unhappy. More often than not, when discussing the previous night’s Raw or Smackdown you will hear fans speak not of what was good about it, but rather what was wrong with it. Other fans have simply stopped watching all together save for an occasional glimpse just to keep up with it. Sadly I am one of those fans.
So when I started watching the AWA on ESPN Classics I was overjoyed to find exactly how exciting it still is, showcasing stars such as Curt Hennig, Shawn Michaels, Scott Hall, Nick Bockwinkel, Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka, Sgt. Slaughter, Bruiser Broody, Larry Zbyszko, Jerry “The King” Lawler, Rick Martel, Stan “The Lariat” Hansen and others. You don’t see pro wrestling like this anymore. And remember, this was when the AWA was considered to be at its /worst/.
It’s kind of funny when you think of it. The AWA and classic competition oriented professional wrestling – even at its worst -- has managed to stand the test of time, actually proving to be superior to anything and everything that the WWE puts out today. So, if you’re tired of watching soap opera skits, if you’re sick of hearing about affairs and illegitimate offspring, if you’re bored with “sports entertainment” and want to watch true professional wrestling, I suggest that you check out AWA Championship Wrestling on ESPN Classics as soon as possible. While you're at it, make sure to see the AWA live when they come to your area. It will make you a pro wrestling fan all over again.
BIG BROTHER SPEAKS OUT!
CBS Big Brother’s Howie Gordon Sits Down One-On-One with The AWA’s Andy Mancini
Andy Mancini: What drove you from /Big Brother/ to the wrestling ring?
Howie Gordon: Well I can tell you that I'm driving. It's only a short
drive from Chicago to Wisconsin! *He laughs* I have tried various
entertainment gigs since Big Brother: Stand-up comedy; Meet the New Elvira; 101 Craziest TV Moments; Music Videos (We are the Stars of Reality); Numerous reality Shows; I’m always excited about trying new events. Who knows? I might get my
ass kicked during my wrestling debut in Racine or I could be the next
"Rock!"
AM: How have you been preparing yourself to step out of /Big Brother/
and into a wrestling ring?
HG: Ideally, I would have wanted another three to four months to
prepare. I just started back in the gym a few months ago. At 75% I still
look better then most of the people in the world, but I'd like to come
in at 90% or better in terms of physical shape. But who knows, maybe my
competition will be BETTER too! *He laughs.”
AM: Have you been studying your opponent at all? What have you found out?
HG: Some people told me about the American Gladiator dude and they
simply said: "Howie, you had better hope he doesn't show up!" I did hear
the guy is a real bad ass.
AM: Do you feel that you have anything to prove?
HG: I think everyone in the world has to prove themselves day after
day. But to win, lose or draw in the ring? Who knows? Any given Sunday.
If I lose, then I lose. But I'd certainly like to win. I haven’t proven
myself yet in the wrestling world but I will.
AM: Will you be bringing your light saber?
HG: I think I’m going to bring the saber. After all, I’m Jedi Howie!
AM: Do you have anything that you would like to say to any of the
other television stars making their wrestling debut?
HG: Yes, if they allow me to wield my light saber, then all those guys
will have his hands full. If they don't... well, then I'd like to buy
them a beer somewhere.
AM: Thank you for your time, Mr. Gordon. Any final thoughts?
HG: Remember to check out www.howiegordon.com.
THE AWA RETURNS TO ESPN!
Wrestling fans worldwide once again have a choice when it comes to
classic wrestling. ESPN, originally broadcasting "AWA Championship
Wrestling" during the late 80's, has started re-broadcasting the popular
series of shows on it's ESPN CLASSICS channel. Many believed that WWE
Libraries monopolized the AWA archived footage, not taking into
consideration that ESPN purchased, produced and broadcast the original
starting in 1985. WWE has attempted to deceive viewers and claim
ownership to everything AWA. Currently, the WWE is in a legal battle
with todays AWA for claims to the entire brand. Sources have indicated
that ESPN, owned by ABC, has recently reached out to the AWA with
assistance in their battle with WWE. Regardless of what is happening
"behind-the-curtains", the fans are the ones who win. The AWA currently
sanctions over one dozen organizations and provides support to a
territorial system. For information where and when you can see the AWA

REVERSAL OF FORTUNE!
AWA Reverses Tag-Team Title Decision in Wisconsin
After hearing petitions from both participating tag-teams in a match for the AWA World Tag-Team Championship on February 8, 2008 in Waukesha, Wisconsin, the AWA has ruled a rare disqualification "after-the-fact". In eye witness reports, Frankie "The Thumper" DeFalco, teaming with Jake "The Milkman" Miliman, threw Fabulous Phil of the Heart Break Express over-the-top rope prior to a pin being counted on his partner, Superstar Sean. "The AWA has a long standing rule dating back to the 60's that states deliberately tossing an opponent over-the-top rope is an automatic disqualification," stated AWA representative and legal adviser Jody Peterman. "We will not accept a "home town" official ruling in a case where the official was not sanctioned by the AWA, didn't call for the bell upon disqualification and clearly was prejudice against the team of Fabulous Phil and Superstar Sean - the Heartbreak Express". In continuing, "the AWA recognizes and respects the rules, something that all sports should strictly adhere to." Accordingly, the AWA has officially returned the Tag-Team Championship to the rightful title
holders, the Heartbreak Express.
Upon hearing the announcement, a very upset and livid Frankie DeFalco stated, "I would expect more from Peterman but everyone knows that the Heartbreak Express are "his boys". "Nothing will change with the politics in the AWA as long as a Gagne is still around. Looks like me and Jake are going to have to take matters in our own hands". Sounds like a clear warning from two very upset veterans of the ring. With the Heartbreak Express once again on top, they go back to being the "hunted" by numerous tag-teams in the AWA, all wanting a shot at being recognized as the very best the sport has to offer.
LARRYLAND REVISITED!
AWA World Title Returned to "Living Legend" Larry Zbyszko
Minneapolis, MN - February, 5, 2008 - While the nation is turning out in record numbers for what's been called "Super Tuesday", the management team of the AWA has announced that the AWA World Heavyweight Championship, stripped from Zero-1's Masato Tanaka in late 2007 due to irresponsible leadership by the fledging Zero-1 MAX's Yoshi Nakamura, has been rightfully returned to "The Living Legend" Larry Zbyszko.
Zbyszko started rallying for what he claimed was rightfully his since mid-2007. The situation heated up immediately after the then AWA Board of Directors stripped Masato Tanaka of the World's title. Zbyszko, through his newly named "representative" Mister Saint Laurent and legal representation, started filing documentation, to the new AWA Management Team, proving he had never lost the title in 1991 when Verne Gagne's AWA entered into bankruptcy. After considerable deliberation and review of the bankruptcy file from the early 90's, the AWA agreed with Zbyszko that he did indeed never actually lose the title. Accordingly, Larry Zbyszko is once again the recognized and current AWA World Heavyweight Champion.
As the celebration started with Zbyszko and "Team Vision" (Zbyszko's running pals' "Not Cocky" Chasyn Rance and Mister Saint Laurent), the AWA also announced that Zbyszko's first title defense would be April 18th in Fayetteville, West Virginia against two of the top 10 contenders in a 3-way dance.
Log-on to AWASTARS.COM for this history making announcement as it further develops.
THE AWA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
Who Will Lead the AWA in 2008 and Beyond?
It is one of the oldest and most prestigious titles in professional
wrestling today. Men have come from far and wide, just to get a chance
to hold it. There have been battles from Minneapolis, Minnesota to Tokyo
Japan for it. Still, not everyone who has held the AWA World Title belt
has the right to refer to themselves as a true champion. Only a true
champion knows that the AWA not only stands for victory, but for class
and integrity well. Throughout the years, names such as Verne Gagne,
Nick Bockwinkel, Curt Henning, and Steve Corino have come to personify
the spirit of the promotion and the image that the belt represents. It
has only happened a few times... and according to one “insider,” it's
about to happen again. And the star in question? None other than the
current United States champion, Ricky Landell.
“I know Landell pretty well,” former AWA Tag Team Champion GQ Gallo said
in a recent interview. “He is a star waiting to happen. I have a lot of
respect for his ability in the ring. If all the upcoming stars are
anything like him, then the AWA has a bright future. Gallo is not alone
in his feelings. Even controversial superstar TNT has taken the time to
praise the “New Generation Ace.” In a recent interview, the Australian,
known for his combative and outspoken nature, said that Landell has “all
the tools to be AWA World Champion.” High praise, indeed.
But not everyone agrees with their sentiments. “I've heard a lot of
people talking about how Ricky Landell is the future of the AWA, but you
know, the future is a funny thing,” says Mister Saint Laurent, manager
and press agent for World Heavyweight Champion Larry Zybysko. “When you
think about the future you need to think about the fact that the more
things change, the more they stay the same. Larry Zbyszko is, was, and
will always be the AWA World Heavyweight Champion and Team Vision will
go to any length or expense to prove our position to the world. We will
plead our case directly to the fans if we have to and if the fans
disagree, maybe we will sue them.”
Even more troublesome are Team Vision's accusations that Landell is
merely a “carbon copy” of the legends that came before him. “I have been
compared to a lot of wrestlers,” says Landell. “I am always told that I
look or act like one person or another. I am told that my 'style' is
old-school or traditional. I prefer to think of my style as just that -
my style. I don't set out to be anyone other than myself. Performers
like Nick Bockwinkel, Ric Flair, Terry Taylor, Curt Hennig, and Steve
Corino are all more than worthy of being held in high regard. Naturally,
I am going to be influenced by them. However, at no time have I
sacrificed my own instinct and creativity to fit any type of mold.”
With the new year right around the corner, and visions of Larry Zybysko
and TNT waiting for him there, Landell has no plans of “cashing in” on
his success. “I think I have accomplished many of the goals I have set
for myself. So with that in mind, I guess you could say I have been
successful up to this point. It really all depends on how one measures
success.” And is his “ultimate goal” obtaining the AWA World Heavyweight
title? “I have given an answer to this question in previous interviews.
Simply put, yes.”
Who will lead the AWA in 2008 and beyond, at a pivotal time when it
appears, the very business the AWA helped create is attempting to
destroy a turbulent company?
JAPAN TAKES A DOUBLE BLOW
Zero-1 MAX Terminated from the AWA;
Masato Tanka stripped of the World Title.
AWA Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. has officially terminated it's
sanctioning and relationship with Zero-1 MAX / Hustle / First on Stage.
"The professional wrestling industry in Japan has changed dramatically
over the last few years and is in economic turmoil, with only a few
promoters succeeding at capturing an audience to an overexposed
business", stated AWA President & CEO Dale R. Gagne. "Zero-1 MAX has
become a mere shadow of it's former self with diminishing audiences,
income and lack of touring talent". Gagne stated the decision was well
thought out and difficult however, "we gave them every opportunity to
succeed by becoming a part of our company and brand. The audience in
Japan simply won't continue supporting a business unwilling to change".
The AWA has subsequently been in negotiations with a high-profile,
nostalgic concert promoter to produce arena events in Japan and other
markets in Europe.
Controversy has never been shy when it comes to World titles. "The
Living Legend" Larry Zybysko has been openly critical of the AWA since
his departure in the early 90's to then World Championship Wrestling.
Zybysko has stated, with conviction, that by the AWA's own governing
by-laws, that he never lost the AWA World Heavyweight Championship. He
claims that he simply left the promotion and took the title with him
when the AWA ceased operations. Zybysko's claims have been discounted,
primarily due to his own rationalization (World Champion's are required
to defend the title within a set period of time) - until now. Keeping a
file of what has been determined to be violations by the AWA World
Heavyweight Champion Makato Tanka, Zybysko, through his wrestling agent
Mister Saint Laurent, officially served the documents to the AWA. In
part, Tanaka participated in matches that were unapproved or sanctioned
by the AWA. Specifically, Tanaka and Takao Omori fought in an
unsanctioned, hardcore match, against the rules of conduct in a World
Title match. "Mr. Tanaka is an extremely respected wrestler however we
can and will not allow anyone to openly violate by-laws that have been
put in place for the betterment of all athletes and promotions, not
one", commented President Gagne on the decision. "This along with
promoter Yoshi Nakamura's unwillingness to allow Tanaka to defend the
title outside of Japan, made the final decision somewhat easier".
"Laughable has been the internet rumors that Zero-1 "owns" the AWA World
Championship", continued Gagne. "Although they own a replica version of
the title belt, no one owns or controls the title except for the AWA
itself". The AWA has served notice to Zero-1 MAX promoter Yoshi
Nakamura and has warned him not to disrespect his wrestlers by referring
to them as fake Champions. They have been advised to remove the AWA
name from their entire promotion as to not confuse fans with future
major AWA events in Japan. Gagne was very specific when commenting on
Zero-1 being associated again with the NWA. "If the NWA wants to be
affiliated with a sinking ship, that's their decision to make", stated
Gagne. "Our relationship with Zero-1 was being accommodated by Steve
Corino, who recently quit the promotion. Watch for Zero-1 to become
involved again with the NWA at their match on December 13th. Who would
blame them? They have no where else to go". Keep visiting
www.awastars.com for the developing story.

G’DAY, MATES!
The AWA Welcomes Australian Promoter Andrew Carter
From "The Land Down Under" writer Andy Mancini meets the newest Promoter to be affiliated with the AWA
Andy Mancini: If you could, please tell us a little about your promotion.
Andrew Carter: All Action Wrestling started back in 2005 mainly as a training school for local talent. Once enough talent was trained, we began running successful shows in Western Australia. Since then, the popularity of All Action Wrestling has been growing by the week. We have expanded to using outside talent to draw bigger numbers.
AM: Briefly, and without giving too much away, explain your booking style.
AC: I like to keep it old school. Face vs Heel and build heat before getting to that big match. I also love “cliffhanger” endings, but they can only be used so often.
AM: Do you account for local tastes when you book your shows?
AC: Yes! It's very important in the development of wrestlers in the country. 95% of our local talent was trained at our Wrestling School. They are booked for their hard work and dedication.
AM: Do you book outside talent for your shows, or do you tend to stay local? If you do book outside talent regularly, what are your guidelines? Is it difficult to book foreign talent to your shows?
AC: I like to use outside talent to hype big events. While it is costly, it is well worth it for both the local wrestlers and the fans who support us. It's a great way to say “thank you.”
AM: Aside from the now-defunct WWA promotion and Nathan Jones, not many people in North America are familiar with "Australian wrestling." If you could, please describe the Australian wrestling scene and how it differs from what North American, Mexican, and Japanese promoters are presenting.
AC: Australian Wrestling is really a mixture of styles from the countries above. You have the guys who like to wrestle the Japanese strong style. You have your high fliers and Luchas. You also have your characters. While everyone is different over here, We tend to stick to the North American style of wrestling.
AM: I noticed that AWF promoter Greg Bownds (TNT) is currently on your roster. Have you worked with his promotion (talent exchanges, invasion angles, etc) in the past? Do you have anything planned for the immediate future?
AC: TNT is, without question, one of the greatest wrestlers in Australia. We have had the privilege of working with TNT on our shows and will continue to do so in the future. In upcoming months, we will be sharing talent with him and working with his promotion. He will be over as part of the upcoming AWA Australian Championship Tournament and I know he will do very well in it. TNT has done a lot for the Australian Scene and is a credit to this business. For the record, we consider him the “un-crowned” AWA World Heavyweight Champion. Earlier this year, he pinned then AWA Champion Steve Corino in what was later deemed as an “unsanctioned” match.
AM: Given the chance, who in the AWA would you most like to bring in for a show, and why?
AC: Former AWA World Champion Steve Corino, due to him already having been beat by Australia’s own TNT and for what he as accomplished in this business.
AM: Similarly, who on your roster do you think could make the biggest impact internationally with the AWA, and why?
AC: There are a few guys in All Action Wrestling that would do well internationally. Firstly, there is NC Viper, who is our current AAW Champion. He is around 280 pounds of muscle and is very entertaining. He can get our crowd popping like there is no tomorrow, not to mention that he is a huge powerhouse. Then there is the Ravemeister, who brings the party to every show and the fans love him for it. Apart from being extremely popular, he also has one of the most creative minds in Australian wrestling and can pull off great matches with anyone! Then there is The Shark, who has worked with the best in Australia. He is one of this countries best promo guys, not to mention a great technical wrestler. Then last but not least, there's Jarrad Slate. Slate is our current Independent Champion and wrestles a Japanese strong style. He can work any kind of match and can get the crowd going without even cutting a promo.
AM: Well, it's been a fine interview. Any final thoughts?
AC: Just a final plug mentioning our next event on December 15th. Our web page is www.awaaustralia.com. We’re excited and feel honored to carry on the AWA tradition within their new process of sanctioning affiliates like us.
TERRITORIES SERVED NOTICE BY THE AWA
After an initial review of AWA Wrestling Entertainment, Inc.'s (the
management company of the AWA brand) licensing and brand agreements,
official notices of revocation have been issued to the following promotions:
Hawai'i Championship Wrestling (HCW)
Supreme Championship Wrestling
Pinnacle Professional Wrestling
Great American Wrestling Federation
TWF - The Wrestling Federation
The revocation of sanctioning and the AWA brand name was made based on a
number of factors. According to the AWA, in most cases, the territories
revoked explicitly violated the terms of their written agreement. The
AWA also evaluated each territories performance, interviewed wrestlers
associated with the promotion and talked with hosting venues. In the
case of each revocation, results ranged from the territory drawing an
average of less than 100 paid admissions, inadequately paying (or not
paying) their wrestling talent, no proof of liability insurance,
misrepresenting themselves to the AWA or not paying annual sanctioning
fees. "First and foremost, this is a business", stated AWA
Vice-President Jon Stewart, "our first responsibility is to entertain
wrestling fans worldwide and to be fiscally responsible. We're
neglegent in doing this by allowing territories to use our name and not
properly represent our principles."
Reportedly, the AWA will role out a new set of standards for it's
remaining promoters who will continue to promote their own territorial
shows however they will only use the AWA name and brand in cooperation
with the AWA's corporate management team when promoting major events.
AWA DISCONTINUES SANCTIONING
In a landmark announcement made today, AWA Chairman of the Board Dale R.
Gagne announced that the AWA will no longer sanction independent
territories effective immediately. Over three years ago, the AWA
started an "open door policy" welcoming top independent wrestling
organizations to represent it's brand both nationally and
internationally. Within a year, the AWA had gained momentum with over
25 affiliate promotions from Hawaii to Japan. During the recent AWA
Annual Meeting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Gagne and Vice-President Jon
Stewart addressed representatives from participating territories
regarding the impending future of the sanctioning program. "Quite
honestly", stated Gagne, "the sanctioning of independent territories
never reached the success we had hoped for". "We never intended on our
brand being represented in bars, out-of-date military bases or American
Legion halls", continued Gagne. "There may very well be a market for
independent wrestling in these types of facilities but it certainly
isn't a part of the AWA's future".
Vice-President Jon Stewart further stated that the AWA will continue to
look for effective and professional promoters to represent it's brand
but there will be obvious differences in what local organizations
present and what the AWA will produce. Where does this leave the
territories currently representing the AWA brand? According to Gagne
and Stewart, each promotion will be individually assessed. Those
territories sharing a vision different than the AWA's new model, will be
released by the end of the year. The Board of Directors and figurehead
President will be dissolved accordingly. For updates on this developing
story, keep it clicking on www.awastars.com.
DAIVARI DEBUTS
AWASTARS.COM has just learned that
the brother of the WWE Superstar of
the same name, Arya Daivari will be debuting in
the AWA and on Wrestling Superstars - LIVE! productions.
The younger Daivari has wrestled for
NWA Wisconsin (formerly All-Star Championship Wrestling),
Minnesota
Championship Wrestling: Battleground as well as
other independent
wrestling promotions, starting when he was only
15. As a tribute to his
brother, Arya performs the Magic Carpet
Ride as a finishing move.

A Living Legend, The Renaissance
Man and “Not Cocky”
Team Vision Set’s Their Sights on the
AWA
Team Vision may very well be the smartest
tandem in professional wrestling. First, “Not
Cocky” Chaysn Rance has continually attempted
to challenge AWA World Light Heavyweight Champion
“Krazy K” not only physically but emotionally
– challenging the Champ while injured. Next,
it was Mister Saint Laurent, the self described
“renaissance man” and captain of Team
Vision, ensuring their teams participation in the
AWA World Tag-Team Championship tournament. Then,
literally out of nowhere, Larry Zbyszko has announced
his intentions of returning home to the AWA. Holding
back nothing, Zbyszko continues to claim that he’s
the “real” AWA World Heavyweight Champion,
having never actually lost the title. With Zbyszko
and Rance unable to be reached for comment, Mister
Saint Laurent was more than willing to talk everything
Team Vision.
Andy Mancini: Some readers might
not be familiar with you. So if you could, please
tell us a little about yourself.
Mister Saint Laurent: If your readers
don't know who I am, then they must not be very
dedicated fans. As far as I'm concerned, if you
don't know who Mister Saint Laurent is, then you
really have no idea how this sport operates or who
controls it. Maybe I shouldn't fully blame the fans,
as really the promoters are also to blame for allowing
my reputation to discourage them from honestly assessing
what I bring to the table. I'm 6'3" and over
400 pounds. I'm the most athletic super heavyweight
of the modern generation. I'm an accomplished musician,
poet, and juggler. I'm one of the most controversial
and polarizing figures outside the ring and one
of the most unique and creative athletes in the
ring. I know the sport of pro wrestling inside out,
which gives me a leg up on everyone else. If wrestling
is physical chess, consider me Bobby Fischer. I've
managed to become one of the most talked about wrestlers
in the United States while at the same time becoming
one of the most accomplished pro wrestling commentators
in the world. I can talk the talk and I can walk
the walk. Soon, I'll have an AWA world championship
belt to prove that I truly am as great as I say
I am.
AM: Tell us a little about Team
Vision.
MSL: Team Vision is something I
created many years ago with my partner Chasyn "Not
Cocky"Rance. Through the years it has evolved
in many ways and I'm very fortunate now to be a
part of one of the most accomplished stables in
professional wrestling. From former AWA World Heavyweight
Champion Larry Zbyszko, to current stars like Matt
Morgan and So Cal Val, Team Vision truly is one
of the greatest units in this sport. Winning the
AWA World Tag Team Championship will just be further
proof of that.
AM: Speaking of Larry Zbyszko,
how exactly did he get involved with Team Vision,
and what does he bring to the group?
MSL: Chasyn and I met Larry a few
years ago at an event here in Florida. We all talked
about our thoughts on the wrestling business and
where the sport was heading. We all agreed that
it was important for professional wrestling to have
a team that could be counted on to bring the sport
into the future. A team with both youth and experience,
both brains and brawn. We just clicked instantly
and we've been tearing things up in Florida and
Georgia ever since. Unlike most teams in pro wrestling,
when we leave the arena, we are still a team. Team
Vision is the real thing. We bought a big house
together in the outskirts of Orlando and turned
it into a full training center. We all live there
and train there day in and day out as a team. Team
Vision is a lifestyle, a lifestyle most couldn't
handle. We all live and breathe this sport and that's
why Larry has been successful for so many years
and why Chasyn and I are fully prepared to put this
business on our backs and take it as far as it needs
to go. Without a doubt, like it or not, Larry Zbyszko
will once again be formally recognized as the AWA
World Heavyweight Champion.
AM: Both Chasyn Rance and Noah
Lott have been rather been rather "up front"
with their opinions on Kirby and TJ Mack. Do you
have anything that you would like to add?
MSL: Look, polite or not, politically
correct or not, Chasyn and Noah haven't said anything
that isn't true. Kirby Mack is a pretty boy nobody
in my opinion. I've wrestled him and I'm not impressed.
I think sometimes these AWA territories are so desperate
to find a golden boy that they latch on to whoever
they can find. To me, that guy is Kirby Mack. If
I saw him tomorrow, I'd spit right in his face and
I've done so in the past. Listen, I'm a certified
genius. Probably the only wrestler to go straight
to college from elementary school. Check my family
history. The Saint Laurents ruled Canada for decades.
If my blood can run a major country, a country that
frankly is a lot better than the one I'm stuck competing
in most of the time, don't think for a second I'm
not cut out to run this sport or don't run it already.
Nobody knows more than me, but this Noah kid, he
knows a lot, take my word for it. I wouldn't doubt
anything he says.
AM: Do you and Chasyn have anything
"up your sleeve" concerning either the
Mack brothers or Dexter Poindexter?
MSL: Of course we have something
up our sleeve, when do we not? But if you think
I'm going to reveal our plans on some stupid website,
you've got to be out of your mind. Team Vision's
business is Team Vision's business. Beating up the
Mack brothers is nothing new to Team Vision and
we'll keep doing what we do until the Mack’s
get tired of dealing with us.
AM: Do you think that Noah Lott
can be trusted? Why or why not?
MSL: Well, I trust him and that should
be good enough for anyone else. They call me the
most important man alive for a reason and if I say
Noah Lott can be trusted, then he can be trusted.
He shouldn't get ID'd at bars. Ushers shouldn't
ask to see his ticket stub. Cops shouldn't ask to
see his license and registration. I'm telling you
Noah Lott is the real deal and that should be good
enough.
AM: What are you predictions for
the tag title tournament?
MSL: Luckily for you, they don't call us
Team Vision for nothing. I can analyze every factor
and walk you 30 steps ahead of the pack. You want
some inside info? Bet on Mister Saint Laurent and
Chasyn Rance. It's a done deal. We will be the new
AWA world champions. That's not even a prediction,
that's just me telling you how it is.
AM: Thank you for the interview.
Do you have anything else to add?
MSL: No, honestly, I didn't want
to say anything to begin with, but it's in my bout
agreement that I have to reasonably promote the
tournament in good faith, so that's what I'm doing.
If fans want to know what I'm about, they can visit
mistersaintlaurent.com
and teamvision.tv.
I'm a take it or leave it kind of guy. I don't bend
for anyone. I'll be heading to Wisconsin on a mission
and that mission will be accomplished. If I make
enemies along the way, so be it. That goes for the
promoters, the fans, or the wrestlers. When Team
Vision rolls into town, things get interesting and
once we have the gold, things will be a little more
interesting in the AWA for a very long time.
360 : Corino Comes Full
Circle
It’s the final countdown to Steve Corino’s
Career
Former AWA World Heavyweight and
Tag-Team Champion “Old School” Steve
Corino talks retirement, his favorite championship
and his upcoming October 5th “must win”
match-up against a friend – the AWA Zero-1
MAX United States Champion, Ricky Landell.
Andy Mancini: What brought about
the decision to retire?
Steve Corino: After 13 years, four
World Heavyweight titles, one World Tag-Team title,
and living the dream of a professional wrestler,
I decided it was time for me to go home. I am going
to use my education and get out before I get hurt
more. I have had a great career but its time for
me to go.
AM: Do you ever see yourself returning
to the ring, ala Terry Funk or Atsushi Onita?
SC: No. I GUARANTEE that I will
never wrestle as Steve Corino ever again. When December
22nd comes and goes, so does the career of Steve
Corino. It was a great career but I will not be
a Terry Funk or Onita.
AM: You have been ECW, NWA, and
AWA champion. Which one of those title reigns was
your favorite and why?
SC: No doubt the AWA World title.
The ECW World title was such an honor - my first
World title. The NWA World title was awesome because
I believe that it opened the door to Japan for me,
but the AWA World title was my favorite. Being the
AWA champion twice let me create history being the
first AWA/ECW/NWA World champion, only the third
AWA/NWA World champion, and I know that my reign
helped in the AWA rebirth. And I was proud to be
the AWA World champion just as I know that Takao
Omori is proud to be the current AWA World champion.
AM: You've encountered a slew of
different people throughout your career. Who was
your favorite person to work with and why?
SC: There has been so many but
I would say it was either Masato Tanaka and/or Takao
Omori. Both of those guys and me have been through
wars in the ring. The respect that we have for each
other is amazing.
AM: Ricky Landell has been called
"the next Steve Corino" by many. Do you
feel that he is "worthy" of that kind
of praise? Why or why not?
SC: I would never call Ricky the
"next Steve Corino" because I fully believe
that Ricky Landell is the "first Ricky Landell."
He is far ahead of me in terms of his progress versus
his time in the sport. While I was still in my learning
stages, Landell is already the AWA ZERO1-MAX United
States champion and a major contender for the AWA
World championship.
AM: Do you think that he still
has something to prove?
SC: Yes, he needs to beat me. Even
though he is the US champion and most likely to
be the one to challenge Takao Omori next, he needs
to show the world that he can beat me first. And
in Milwaukee on October 5th, he will get that chance.
Unfortunately for him, it won't happen. I plan on
not only winning the US title for a third time but
retiring the title. I was the first champion and
I will be the last.
AM: Do you think he has what it
take to someday be AWA World Champion?
SC: Not only is it going to happen,
but it will happen sooner rather than later. Landell
is hungry to break out of this “shadow”
he thinks he is in and become the World champion.
I think the only thing stopping him is that ZERO1-MAX
has not brought Landell over in a while and Omori
hasn't traveled to the US.
AM: Any final thoughts concerning
your storied career?
SC: It has been an amazing ride
and I have loved every moment of it. I’m looking
forward to retirement BUT I will never forget my
13 year journey!
AM: Thank you for a fine interview.
Any final thoughts?
SC: Don't forget www.SteveCorino.com!
TAG-TEAM TURMOIL: WHO WILL
WIN THE GOLD?
Staff Writer Andy Mancini handicaps the participating
Tag-Teams
Team Name: “Snakeman”
Deven Michaels and Brandon Morgan
Home Promotion: AWA-MWA
Representing: Northern West Virginia, Southeastern
Ohio, and Western/Central Pennsylvania
Inside Info: While scouting a tournament such as
this, one will occasionally run across a wrestler
or a team or who immediately grabs his or her attention.
The team from West Virginia-based MWA promotion
definitely fits that description. Unlike the other
teams, in which the members are representing their
home promotion, Michaels and Morgan actively and
proudly represent their home faction. Yes, that's
right. Faction. On one side of the fence we have
New Breed Wrestling heavyweight champion Brandon
Morgan. On the other side sits thoroughly unpredictable
“Snakeman” Deven Michaels. Not only
is Michaels representing the rival West Virginia
Wrestling Association, he is the protégé
of the legendary Jake “The Snake” Roberts.
Are Morgan and Michaels capable of working as a
solid, cohesive unit, or will their many differences
ultimately do them in?
Team Name: Logan and Glory
Members: Brian Logan and Justyn Glory
Home Promotion: AWA Apex and AWA/WSWF
Representing: Southern West Virginia, Virginia,
Eastern Kentucky, Northern Ohio, and Connecticut
Inside Info: One is from Connecticut, the home of
power, wealth, privilege, and a certain family that
wrestling fans everywhere are familiar with. The
other is from West Virginia, home of coal mines,
steel mills, “blue collar” work ethic,
and Loretta Lynn. One preaches honor and respect.
The other is the proud inventor of the “Cluck
Like a Chicken” match. They have never tagged
together before, and frankly, hate each other with
a passion. Simply put, this is the real “wild
card” team in this tournament. If Justyn Glory
and Brian Logan are able to set the personal feelings
aside, they might be able to make a real impact
on the tournament. If not, it might spell “doom”
for their chances.
Team Name: Hell's Fire and
Barbed Wire
Members: Dick Foley and Timber
Home Promotion: AWA Power Pro
Representing: The Carolinas
Inside Info: Ladies and gentlemen, the inmates have
officially left asylum. Hell's Fire and Barbed Wire,
individually known as “Hardcore Hero”
Dick Foley and “The Insane Lumberjack”
Timber, are not necessarily interested in having
a “wrestling match.” Instead, they were
thinking of having something along the lines of
a sanctioned “savage beating.” If Foley
and Timber are able to keep their true natures in
check (and that, folks, is a big “if”),
the other competitors don't even stand a chance.
After all, two-by-four covered in barbed wire beats
a headlock or a toe hold every time.
Team Name: The Heartbreak
Express
Members: Sean and Phil Davis
Home Promotion: AWA World-1 South
Representing: Georgia
Inside Info: Any “average” team can
be crowned the champions of a state or a promotion.
It takes someone special to be the named the champions
of an entire set of islands. In addition to their
numerous tag title reigns in Florida and Georgia,
Sean and Phil Davis are also the reigning tag team
champions of the Cayman Islands. Clearly, the Heartbreak
Express understand how complex and varied tag teams
can be. But are they ready to take on nineteen of
North America's best teams?
Team Name: Team Vision
Members: Chasyn Rance and Mister Saint Laurent
Home Promotion: AWA Worldwide
Representing: Florida
Inside Info: They have the size advantage. They
have the talent. They even have the support of “The
Living Legend” and self-proclaimed “undefeated
AWA champion,” Larry Zybysko. And now is the
time for them to show the world what exactly Team
Vision can do. On one end we have “Not Cocky”
Chasyn Rance, the up-and-coming high flier and perpetual
“thorn in the side” of former Tag champs
Kirby and TJ Mack. On the other sits Mister Saint
Laurent, a the human equivalent of a brick wall.
Will they be able to overcome eighteen teams and
on-again, off-again partner Noah Lott? Time will
tell.
Team Name: American History
Next
Members: “Metalhead” Steve Stone and
“Hardcore” Craig
Home Promotion: AWA Brew City
Representing: Indiana
Inside Info: During the week, Craig is the textbook
definition of “average guy” - an union
pipe fitter with his own friends and credit cards
and keys. But on the weekends... that's another
story altogether. Along with his partner, “Metalhead”
Steve Stone, Craig becomes the walking, talking
version of the word “hardcore.” Craig
and Steve seem to have an advantage, as their “hardcore”
lineage tends to separate them from the rest of
the teams. Still, one's greatest asset also tends
to be his or hers greatest weakness. Will the two
average guys from the Midwest prevail with their
“hardcore” styling, or it lead them
down the path to ruin?
Team Name: The Soul Shooters
Members: Dru and Q Skills
Home Promotion: AWA Brew City
Representing: Wisconsin
Inside Info: The Soul Shooters, the self-described
“hottest tag team in professional wrestling,”
have proven themselves as the undisputed kings of
the Wisconsin tag team ranks. In just a few months,
Dru and Q were able to take down three of the top
teams in Brew City Wrestling – The Doomsayers,
American History Next, and Thumper and The Milkman
– to achieve the dream of tag team gold. Will
they be able to overcome eighteen of the best tag
teams in the AWA, or will their opponents figure
out their “magic” once and for all?
Team Name: Boz and Young
Members: Ryan Boz and Silas Young
Home Promotion: AWA Slam
Representing: Illinois and Indiana
Inside Info: If one would look up the term “rising
stars” in the dictionary, there is a good
chance that he or she will see the smiling faces
of Boz and Young. Veterans of several different
promotions and tag teams throughout the Midwest,
Ryan Boz and Silas Young know the wrestling business.
The can work a hardcore match. They can do technical
wrestling. They can pull of power moves if needed.
Simply stated, Boz and Young know what they are
up against, and they are no doubt up to the challenge.
It wouldn't be surprising to see these two men completely
dominate the proceedings.
Team Name: The Junk Squad
Members: “Playboy” Pete Huge and “Simply
Sexy” Kleck Michaels
Home Promotion: AWA Pro Wrestling Rush
Representing: Minnesota
Inside Info: Simply put, these two men are true
professionals. Three, four, five at a time... it
doesn't matter to them. They could go all night
long if they wanted to. They can play it safe, or
they can do it with absolutely no protection whatsoever.
That's right, they're hardcore! No one is ever left
at the door and everyone is always guaranteed a
good time when The Junk Squad is around. Minnesota
already knows full well about the charms of Huge
and Michaels. It is now time for them to take “nationwide,”
as they say. Do they have the endurance to go “all
the way?”
Team Name: The Doomsayers
Members: Dinn T. More and Brandon Tatum
Home Promotion: AWA Brew City
Representing: Missouri and Kansas
Inside Info: Without a shadow of a doubt, Dinn T.
More and Brandon Tatum two of the most hated men
ever step into a Brew City Wrestling ring. They
were booed, they were jeered, so they... they moved
the team?! Yes folks, you heard it right. More and
Tatum moved the Doomsayers base of operation from
Milwaukee, Wisconsin to St. Louis Missouri - home
of the legendary Harley Race. Will the Doomsayers
be able to overcome Milwaukee's “warm welcome”
and take the titles back to Harley and Missouri?
Team Name: Knight Vision
Members: Rowdy Knight and “Lightning”
Blind Mike
Home Promotion: AWA-RMCW
Representing: Colorado
Inside Info: Knight Vision is by far the most unlikely
and at the same time, inspirational teams in this
tournament, thanks to the inclusion of one man:
“Lightning” Blind Mike. As his name
suggests, Mike is legitimately blind. But, as his
inclusion also suggests, he is not going to let
a “minor inconvenience” such as that
stand in his way. His partner is RMCW Champion Rowdy
Knight – the last person one would ever want
to meet in a bar fight. Together, Knight Vision
has more than capable of surprising everyone and
making the tournament “theirs.” They
have the talent, the skills, and definitely the
heart to make it happen.
Team Name: Kaimana and Micah
Members: “Mr. Family Entertainment”
Kaimana and Micah Taylor
Home Promotion: AWA Hawai'i
Representing: Hawaii
Inside Info: New AWA president Linda Bade is usually
considered the poster woman for the word “impartiality.”
Always fair, always “down the middle,”
never wavered for a moment. That was until “her
boys” decided to give the tournament a try.
Kaimana and Taylor are considered to be the heavy
favorites of this tournament due to their size,
experience, and of course, for their “friends
in high places.” Still, President Bade has
personally assured both Dale Gagne and the Board
of Directors that a title win would be due to athleticism,
not “executive cheating.” Are Kaimana
and Micah Taylor able to go all the way? Can they
win “the big one?”
Team Name: The Thumper and
The Milkman
Members: Frankie “The Thumper” DeFalco
and Jake “The Mikman” Milliman
Home Promotion: AWA Brew City
Representing: The Old School
Inside Info: Those who follow the AWA know that
Team Zybysko ultimately won the “Team Challenge”
series. While Zybysko is largely credited for the
win, he was not person who physically got the final
pin. That man is none other than Jake Milliman.
He has wrestled against the some of AWA legends
– Nick Bockwinkel, Larry Zybysko, Sgt. Slaughter
– and has lived to talk about. If that wasn't
enough, “The Milkman's” partner in crime
is Frankie “The Thumper” DeFalco, Wisconsin
wrestling legend and owner of Milwaukee's Brew City
Wrestling promotion. Will the two veterans be able
to show the younger teams how it was done in the
“old school?”
Team Name: Noah Lott and ???
Home Promotion: AWA Worldwide
Representing: Himself!
Inside Info: No partner? That's not a problem for
the “Picture of Perfection.” In fact,
AWA's resident evil genius claims the doesn't even
need a partner, thanks to the status of Kirby and
TJ Mack. With Team Macktion on the “injured
reserve,” Noah believes that the only things
standing in his way are two days. Can he make it
through, or will his “mystery partner”
throw the proverbial “monkey wrench”
into his plans?
Team Name: Bad
Rad 3000
Members: Alex Silvia and Simon Falcon
Home Promotion: AWA Quebec
Representing: Quebec
Inside Info: Alex Silvia and Simon Falcon have something
to prove.
They're young- youngest team in the tournament,
in fact – but that
doesn't mean that they are not ready. Not in the
least. In fact, Bad Rad
3000 see this as their opportunity for greatness.
It is their chance to
prove once and for all that they can indeed thrive
in the international
spotlight and make French Canadians everywhere proud
once again. Will
they be able to pull it off, or will their relative
inexperience come
through?
Team Name: Canadian Extreme
Members: Kryss Thorn and CK Sexx
Home Promotion: AWA Ontario
Representing: Ontario
Inside Info: When one sees the swagger and skill
of Canadian Extreme,
he or she might be reminded of another legendary
team that once called
the AWA ring home – The Midnight Rockers of
Shawn Michaels and Marty
Janetty. Like Michaels and Janetty, “Extreme”
members Kryss Thorn and CK Sexx has everything a
team needs to be considered a champion in the AWA.
Still, the Midnight Rockers didn't have to plow
through eighteen other
teams in a two-day period in order to get to that
point. If they can
make it to the second round, there is a good chance
that the tag team
titles will be relocating to Ontario.
Team Name: Team Elite
Members: Sonny Roselli and Larry Huntley
Home Promotion: AWA North Atlantic
Representing: New England and New Brunswick
Inside Info: They are six-time tag team champions
in both New England
and Eastern Canada area. They have held more singles
titles in the past
few years than the normal wrestler would hold throughout
their entire
career. Now, they are prepared to go for it all.
“The Italian Superman”
Sonny Roselli and “The Enforcer” Larry
Huntley, collectively known as
Team Elitle, feel they have what it takes to take
the gold. Taking into
account their veteran status, as well as utter dominance
of the New
England scene, Team Elite could easily be considered
one of the
“favorites” of the tournament.
Team Name: The Lumberjacks
Members: Jake and Jack Molson
Home Promotion: AWA/WSWF
Representing: New York and Northeastern Pennsylvania
Inside Info: They were a force to be reckoned with
in the early
1990's. Jake and Jack Molson were one of the most
feared and respected
tag teams in the Northeast independent scene. Sadly,
time, along with
that infamous force knows as “creative differences,”
ultimately drove
them apart. But now, at the request of of former
manager and World Star
Wrestling promoter Johnny Glitter, Jake and Jack
have returned to the
tag team ranks to go for it all. They have the ability
and the notoriety
to go far, but one has to keep in mind the fact
that they have just
reunited. Their years apart might wind up being
hindrance to the once
dominant team. Will they be able to achieve their
former glory?
Team Name: “Superstar” Rocky Styles
and Matt Mangle
Home Promotion: The Wrestling Federation (AWA-TWF)
Representing: Philadelphia, New Jersey, and Delaware
Inside Info: Their hatred knows no
bounds. For over five years now,
Matt Mangle has been obsessed with getting the TWF
Heavyweight title off of the waist of one “Superstar”
Rocky Styles. Their feud became so
violent, so heated that the promotion actually had
to go on a nearly
four-year hiatus to let all parties “cool
down.” Still, the lure of
world-class gold proved to be too much for these
two world-class
competitors. If Styles and Mangle are indeed able
to put their personal
feelings aside, we might end up seeing the titles
calling Phoenixville,
Pennsylvania home.

9.28.07 Landell vs. Lott
Who Will Lead the New Generation?
By Special Contributor "Hollywood"
Joe Williamson
On September 28^th , "greatness"
and "excellence" collide. Two of the AWA's
most popular new generation Superstars will meet
for the first time. “The Trademark of Excellence”
Ricky Landell will put his AWA ZERO1-MAX US title
on the line against “The Definition of Greatness”
Noah Lott. Both have everything to gain and just
as much to loose.
Ricky Landell was trained by former AWA, NWA and
ECW World Heavyweight Champion Steve Corino. Corino
has taught Landell how to become a Superstar, in
and out of the ring, lining Landell up to face some
of the biggest names in wrestling including CW Anderson,
Kip James, B.G. James, Buff Bagwell, "Dr. Death"
Steve Williams, to name just a few. Landell has
held the AWA World Tag Team title, the World-1 Heavyweight
Title, a championship recognized from Corino’s
own promotion, and now the AWA ZERO-1 MAX US title.
Ricky Landell is clearly the future of the business
BUT. . .
Lets not forget about Noah Lott, who was trained
by former NWA World Heavyweight Champion and UFC
Hall-of-Fame inductee, Dan "The Beast"
Severn. Lott has learned numerous different ways
to break down an opponent much like his mentor.
Lott has gone up against some of the top rising
stars in this business including Josh Abercrombie,
N8 Mattson, AWA World Light Heavyweight Champion
"Krazy K" Kirby Mack, T.J. Mack, and many
others. He's even teamed with Ricky Landell's mentor,
Steve Corino and the legendary Cuban Assassin. Noah
Lott has held the AWA Apex Shooting Star title,
as well as the POG Chaotic title, and the POG Tag
Team titles (unfortunately not recognized by the
AWA) on two occasions. Price of Glory is a promotion
that Dan Severn founded.
I believe that Ricky Landell and Noah Lott will
give the people in Ontario, Canada a match to remember
on Sept. 28^th as AWA Ontario presents "Road
to the Gold" in Hamilton, Ontario Canada. This
match could be the match that helps defines the"new
generation" of the AWA and what today's AWA
is all about. I've been following the AWA since
it held its Light Heavyweight title tournament in
2005, and all I can say is that there is so much
talent, its ridiculous. However having two of its
top stars go at it for much more then just a title
will be something to remember. On September 28^th
Excellence meets Greatness in a match for the Ages.

THE CHAMP MAKES IT PERSONAL
Kirby Mack Responds To Chasyn Rance
Being nice only gets people so far.
I think some people are very naive if they think
that they can just walk all over me. Let's clear
the air here Chasyn, since you want to lay it all
out. Let's talk charity cases. I haven't asked anyone
for a dime, not one. Everything that has been done
for me was constructed by my fans. Why you ask?
It's because I am actually /cared/ about in this
business, regardless of if I need the help or not.
People genuinely care about me and want to help.
When I arrive at a show people are happy to see
me. Unlike you, Mr. "Richie Rich," people
don't go around kissing my butt, sucking up to me
hoping that maybe I'll toss a little help their
way. People don't care about you Chasyn. Why? It's
because all you care about is yourself. You think
you're this top notch superstar, but last time I
checked, more then half of the people in this business
where looking over your head rather than eye to
eye. Now don't get me wrong - you do have the potential.
If anyone ever decided to run a Midget Wrestling
promotion, you by far would be the champion. Seriously
Chasyn, there is one thing about you that I like
that always stays consistent: your win/loss record
with me. Let's look back in history. Out of the
nine times we have met in that ring you lost seven.
That puts me up top of any series: 2 out of 3, best
of 5, best of 7. Looks like your “wrestling”
is just like your height - it falls a little short.
As for talking personal, let's talk personal, “Mr.
Millionaire.” How many times have you driven
to a show? Oh that's right... you don't drive! You
constantly mooch off of people like a blood sucking
leech! Maybe that's how you can be this self proclaimed
millionaire. You are the “Paris Hilton”
of this business. Nobody wants you around and the
only reason you are is because your Daddy's frontin'
you money. Let's not forget the other trait you
have in common with Paris...
I don't have to speak much for my
brother, but I will say this - it's no secret you
foul everything you touch. Maybe that is why, shortly
after TJ stayed the night at your house, he kicked
his girlfriend quicker than a Lindsey Lohan relapse.
TJ can fight his own battles and he doesn't need
me. We don't consider this team to be Batman and
Robin, we consider this team to be John Wayne and
Clint Eastwood. All this talk about living in the
shadows... The only shadow casted on the AWA is
that of Chasyn Rance, Noah Lott and Zach Gowen's
egos. You talk about my lung being my downfall?
You're hanging out with a man with one leg. TJ and
I are two different people with two different styles
and we are both successful at our own game. Trust
me. I've had my ups and downs and I've overcome
it all, from bad publicity to a bad lung. A real
champion is one who actually has accomplishments
and doesn't just talk about what he "can"
accomplish. A true champion is one who overcomes
adversity. My name is still in the history books
as the longest reigning AWA Light Heavyweight Champion
of all time. You Chasyn. can't quite measure up.
Guess you never really will.
The AWA does not support or condone Mr. Rance’s
comments in the following letter that was sent to
both our website and AWA World Light Heavyweight
Champion “Krazy K” Kirby Mack.
"Krazy K" Kirby Mack, loved by all the
fans and talked about as the next breakthrough wrestler
on the Indies. Honestly, he's good, but not that
good. Look at him now, laid up in a hospital. Poor
baby. I see all over the Internet asking for money.
Come on. What kind of world champion is a charity
case? I'll give him credit though, he does try hard
to help out his little brother, T.J. Hey T.J., remember
that night you brought your girlfriend over to stay
for the weekend? You honestly have no clue what
we really did. Kirby, don't worry about your girl,
cause she's below my standards.
Listen. You're going to end up like an Amazing Red.
Everyone thought he was going to be the next big
thing but look at him. He hurt his knee and he's
done. Your lung and your brother will be your downfall.
Really, I don't care what happens to you, but I
do care about that title. Why not give me a call?
I'll help with your medical bills. I can cover it.
I'm a millionaire. If anyone reading this doesn't
believe me, look it up. I don't need wrestling;
wrestling needs me. I'll take care of you Kirby.
Just make sure your next title defense is against
me. Even bring your lil' bro with you to the ring.
Either way, it's only a matter of time before you
lose that title and it might as well be to the real
future superstar, Chasyn "Not Cocky" Rance.
By the way, take a deep breath for me.
AWA SUSPENDS WENKEL &
STEWART
AWA World Tag-Team Titles Vacated
On the evening of June 13th, 2007
, just hours before the WrestleRace 7.0 event in
Indianapolis, Indiana at the Indianapolis Speedrome,
AWA Vice-President Jonnie Stewart terminated the
contracts of then Tag-Team Champions Ric Converse
and Xsiris due to unprofessional conduct. Although
Mr. Stewart’s decision may be credible, he
did so without the required approval of the Board
of Directors. Mr. Stewart then made a few “creative
changes” to the matches, putting Ricky Landell
and himself in the tag-team title match against
Marcus “Buff” Bagwell and The Patriot,
collectively known as Stars and Stripes. In response
to Jonnie Stewart’s actions, AWA nominated
President Danny Wenkel (and AWA CWF Mid-Atlantic
Wrestling Promoter) purposely ignored the termination
of then champions Ric Converse and Xsiris, playing
“romper room” with the titles, as asserted
by Vice-President Stewart.
Due to the actions by both President Danny Wenkel
and Vice-President Jonnie Stewart and their responsibilities
as leaders of the AWA, the Board of Directors has
no choice but to immediately suspend them from their
positions. Furthermore, in an effort of fairness
to all competitors, the AWA World Tag-Team Championship
is immediately considered vacant as of June 13,
2007. Any perpetrated championship matches following
the title reign of Ric Converse and Xsiris are deemed
un-sanctioned and will not be recognized by the
AWA. The mockery of these prestigious titles will

An “open invitation” Tag Team tournament
will be held October 5^th in Waukesha, Wisconsin
to crown the new and deserving AWA World Tag-Team
Champions. Every sanctioned AWA promotion has the
opportunity to enter one tag-team into the tournament.
Despite the acts perpetrated by Mr. Stewart and
Mr. Wenkel and their imminent fate within the AWA,
we are confident that the pride, honor, and respectability
of the AWA World Tag Team titles are, and always
shall, remain intact. Despite what the old cliché
says, a couple of rotten apples don’t /not/
spoil the whole bunch, and we aim to prove it.
Sincerely,
AWA Board of Directors
BUSICK BULLIES STEWART
Former WWE Wrestler "Big Bully Busick"
Responds to Stewart on FOX News
AWASTARS.COM has exclusively received
a copy of an e-mail sent to the AWA by Nick "Big
Bully" Busick in response to AWA Vice-President
of Branding and Talent, Jon Stewart.
Dear AWA -
I have never seen a better example of someone attempting
to get /_"cheap heat"_/ than Jon Stewart's
(O'Reilly Factor) interview Friday, 07-13-07.
Although the transcript has not yet been posted
on the Fox News website of the above mentioned segment,
his moronic statements only fuels the media driven
"roid rage" propaganda, taking away other
issues far more worthy of such valuable air-time
pertaining to this topic. Further, Stewart misrepresented
"the business", "the boys" and
certainly the WWE and I would think your AWA.
I have had the great experience of working with
past AWA wrestlers and I can not imagine them allowing
this /_"Joe bag of donuts"_/ to represent
an organization with such a rich wrestling history.
I have requested air time in order to reply to Stewart's
deceptiveness and falsehoods.

2 TIMES THE CHARM
AWA World Light Heavyweight Champion "Krazy
K" Kirby Mack reflects on 2 years as the Champ
He’s battled against CW Anderson.
He has went up against Shannon Moore. He has even
challenged Jeff Hardy. But last Wednesday at the
Indianapolis Speedrome in Indianapolis, AWA Light
Heavyweight Kirby Mack took on and defeated something
completely foreign to him: a shark.“I don't
know how or where Shark Boy came from or how he
got this opportunity,” Mack said during an
exclusive interview. “Shark Boy knows the
game, he knows what to do and how to do it, but
he doesn't know me, he doesn't know The Addiction.
I respect him and everything he has done. At this
point he really doesn't have much left to prove.”
If there is one thing that he knows, it's surprises.
Since winning the Light Heavyweight title in 2005,
Kirby Mack has taken a rather “open challenge”
approach concerning potential rivals – an
odd tactic for a cruiser weight wrestler. Rumor
has it that “The Addiction's” next opponent
might be young up-and-comer Chasyn Rance, best known
for his work in AWA-affiliate World-1 South and
the Florida-based Full Impact Pro. “Make no
mistake about it,” stated Mack, “I don’t
take Chasyn or anyone else for that matter lightly.
He’s been trying to end my career since it
started. I have been on his list for about four
years now, ever since our first encounter where
he tried to knocked me out with the hardest enzuguri
I've ever felt, but he underestimated me - a mistake
he has paid for for years.”
Along with Rance, Mack is also expecting at least
a few confrontations with the “One Legged
Wonder” Zach Gowen. Gowen has gained some
well-deserved media attention over the years, not
only wrestling in such mainstream promotions as
the WWE, TNA, and Ring of Honor, but for doing it
with only one leg. It is certainly someone that
Mack is familiar with. “I've watched Zach
Gowen wrestle for years. When he was in the WWE
I thought, 'Wow how did this guy get so lucky?'
And now to think I might be able to step in the
ring again with Zach, that's something else. Zach
is tough. He continues to defy the odds every time
he steps into the ring.”
Concerning the future, he is definitely leaving
his options open. “I'd love to go into Zero-1
and wrestle [current reigning AWA Champion Takao]
Omori or [former ECW Champion Masato] Tanaka. And
how great would it be for me to capture the AWA
Zero-1 Junior Heavyweight title? An AWA reunion
of “Team Macktion” is not out of the
question either. “My brother and I may be
looking into making ourselves a two time AWA Tag
Team Champion and for a lot longer then our last
streak.”
With the future in mind but the present still in
check, Kirby Mack has no desire of “going
away” anytime soon. “With every passing
day that I still remain the Light Heavyweight Champion
the fight and the pride grows in me more and more.
You have to understand every day that goes by I
remake history. Everyday. I’m the longest
reigning AWA Light Heavyweight Champion ever. The
longest running World Light Heavyweight Champion
in the history of professional wrestling. The longer
the streak the harder it will be for someone else
to knock me out of the record books. No one really
ever remembers the second or the third but they
always remember the first. At the end of the day,
I’m grateful for all I’ve been blessed
with”.
